Sophie provides a mobile service and will come and treat your animal within its own relaxing home environment!
Following an in-depth case history, static and dynamic analysis, and soft tissue assessment, an individually tailored treatment plan and will be implemented and a future plan developed specially for you and your animal.
Sophie is highly trained in a variety of therapeutic treatment techniques:
>> Manual Therapies
>> Exercise Remedial Programmes
>> Home Management Advice
Want to know more…?
1. Case History >> Subjective information from owner and vet, including previous injuries, medical history, any falls, behavioural issues, current home management and environment (i.e. turnout, stabling etc.), current trainer, owners expectations and goals, current farrier and saddler etc.
2. Static Assessment >> An indepth assessment of conformation and posture. Conformation varies greatly throughout individuals and breeds, and greatly influences an animals posture, movement and functional capabilities. Understanding how differing conformation influences the musculoskeletal system, helps Sophie to identify potential uneven stresses throughout the joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. Being aware of your animal’s conformational characteristics means that we can then try to support and manage the onset of any possible short and long-term compensatory issues that your animal might be predisposed to, with the ultimate aim of reducing the risk of injury.
3. Dynamic Assessment >> Gait assessment to identify any abnormal movement patterns and functional deficits, that may negatively impact your animal’s musculoskeletal health and performance.
4. Soft Tissue Palpation >> A whole body assessment to identify areas with abnormal tissue states i.e. compensatory areas, fibrotic (scar) tissue, heat, swelling, pain etc.
Together these will enable Sophie to build and understand the full picture, and to identify any potential primary factors that may be influencing the presenting conditions, and develop her clinical reasoning behind the unique treatment plan for your animal.
The treatment will utilise a variety of techniques including manual therapies, electrotherapies, remedial exercise programmes, and home management advice.
Manual Therapies >> Therapeutic soft tissue and massage techniques, myofascial release, joint mobilisations, and stretching.
Electrotherapies >> Pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy, low level laser therapy (LLLT), ultrasound therapy, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) therapy, neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) therapy (and H-Wave for horses).
Exercise Remedial Programmes >> Individually tailored to improve your animals musculoskeletal functional capabilities. The following three sequential parameters are targeted:
1: Flexibility and range of motion (RoM),
2: Strength and endurance,
3: Proprioception, agility and coordination.
Home Management Advice >> Advice will be given to help you create and provide an environment that will support optimal well-being, and successful recovery of your animal.
